Zion’s journey is nothing short of miraculous. Found abandoned with his sister on the streets of Lapeer County, both were labeled feral, anxious, and aggressive after being brought into animal control. Sadly, his sister didn’t make it—but Zion’s story took a different turn.
Terrified and misunderstood, Zion spent three months deteriorating in the shelter, biting out of fear and only trusting one volunteer. Just when it seemed like his time was up, a compassionate shelter worker reached out to our training program for a last-chance intervention. We met Zion, saw the spark behind his fear, and knew he deserved a shot.
Shortly after his rescue, Zion began panting excessively—and we discovered a horrifying surprise: a 4-inch spinner hook lodged deep in his tongue and throat. Emergency surgery saved his life, and with it, his future. Since then, Zion has undergone full vetting and has blossomed under our care.
Now, this stunning young German Shepherd (estimated 1.5–2 years old) is thriving in training and preparing for his forever home. Zion is a high-energy, high-drive boy who will do best with an experienced handler familiar with working breeds. He’s incredibly loving, protective, and dog-friendly—he adores romping around with canine pals and is always up for a game of chase.
Zion’s silly side shines through in his signature “teethy kisses”—a gentle, goofy gesture where he places his teeth on your cheek or head to show affection. He’s loyal, playful, and ready to bond deeply with the right person.
Zion will be available for adoption in just a few weeks. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a resilient spirit and a whole lot of love to give, Zion might be your perfect match
